3 Nigerians on Hajj arrested for Possession of Cocaine in Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria has become a subject of ridicule among its peers in the international community, as three Nigerians from Kwara State, were arrested by the Saudi Arabian authorities, for possessing a substance, suspected to be cocaine, while performing hajj ritual rites.

According to news reports, the Executive Secretary, Kwara Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hajia Abolore-Jimoh Fatima, who confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, August 17, said the three pilgrims, were among the first batch of 505 Pilgrims from Kwara, and were arrested in Madina, by the Saudi Arabia security operatives.

Hajia Fatima, who did not disclose the identities of the three suspects, said they were still in the custody of the Saudi Arabian authorities.

The development presently, has raised suspicions among other Nigerians performing hajj, as they are being subjected to severe screening, monitoring and embarrassment.

The Executive Secretary, disclosed that the Saudi Arabian law would certainly take its course on the three suspected drug traffickers.

She described the arrest as unfortunate and painful, in spite of several appeals to the pilgrims, to be good ambassadors of Kwara State and Nigeria.

She however, dismissed claims that other pilgrims were being subjected to undue treatment, as they are still in Madina.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, about 1,978 pilgrims from Kwara State are performing the 2016 pilgrimage exercise.
