For 2 days straight the hashtag “#EndSars” has been at the top of Twitter’s trend table with over 250,000 tweets. Nigerians have had enough of SARS and police brutality and used social media to air their views.
Reading through the tweets, you will weep at the number of Police brutality and how bad things have been and the horrible experience of Nigerian citizens in the hands of SARS/Nigerian Police who are supposed to protect them but turn around to harass, brutalize and even molest Nigerian citizens. I and some travellers once had an encounter with a SARS operative and he said “I go shoot you and nothing go happen” Pathetic!
The Nigerian Police keeps saying “Bail is Free” but we all know that’s one of the biggest lies ever told with confidence. Just as people used social media to demand they End Sars, some are also asking for the sack of Yomi Shogunle; the Assistant Commissioner of Police and PRO, saying he is very rude, arrogant, an embarrassment, lacks empathy, corrupt, and does not listen to the complaints of people as a PRO but goes ahead to block them when they complain.
Why can’t SARS and Nigerian Police do the job they are paid to do and stop harassing Nigerians? If you look good, have a beard, own a laptop and drive a good car you are a sure candidate for the harassment and brutality. They should pay attention to the real criminals and stop harassing innocent Nigerians!
Is it that the salary of Police and SARS operatives is not enough, or the bribe and extortions they do is not enough that they still go ahead to harass people for the joy of it?
To be honest, it may not be a perfect idea to End Sars because truth be told, they still foil a lot of robbery incident. What needs to be done is to reduce this menace by sanitizing the SARS and Nigerian Police. Thy should stop employing hardened criminals and screen those they employ thoroughly!
Good thing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar tweeted about End Sars, as well as a lot of celebrities. Hopefully, this issue will be looked into and addressed properly. We wait and see what will be done to stop this menace.
Below are tweets by Nigerians as they encounter their ordeal with Nigerian Police/SARS Operatives. First with this video of SARS Operatives shooting at Nigerians.

Can never forget November 2005, driving in Abuja with @sommbonu and @IAMOfem. Stopped by a plain clothes officer with a gun, chased and actually being shot at for being “suspected armed robbers”. Ofem still has the bullet scars on his shoulder.#EndSARS

In my country when we see the Police we try every possible means to avoid them, even though we are not criminals.
You never know the spiritual charge they will formulate against you.
Meanwhile they wine and dine with the real criminals.
The Police is not your friend #EndSARS
